Leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes has significantly increased its team in the Midlands with a number of key trainee appointments, underlining its commitment to investing in regional skills.

The company has recruited 19 trade apprentices and an apprentice master to oversee their training as it expands operations across more new homes developments.

Commercial director Kevin Johnson said: “Despite the challenges thrown up by economic uncertainty over the past few years, Persimmon Homes Midlands continues to serve the region with quality new homes developments.

“From our regional headquarters in Northampton, we currently operate on nine sites, with a further four new outlets in the pipeline.

“To ensure the ongoing success of the company, Persimmon Midlands has been recruiting bright young apprentices and trainees, keen to learn and succeed in the housebuilding industry – and we continue to recruit, ensuring we invest in the skills we need to grow the business.”

The company has recently added five carpentry apprentices and eight trainee bricklayers, with a further six joining the business this month. Their work and development is overseen by apprentice master Ian Harbage, a former bricklaying college lecturer.

Kevin added: “Ian worked as a bricklayer for Persimmon Homes before joining Milton Keynes college, playing an important role in training and guiding young people in a trade. Persimmon works closely with local colleges to ensure there is a clear route into employment within the industry, and Ian has played a key part in this.”

Ian said: “Here at Persimmon Homes we recognise that having the best workforce in the industry is vital to our success.

“We are completely committed to developing the next generation of trade professionals, ensuring valuable practical construction skills are passed on from our existing craftsmen to the builders of the future.”
